Philosophy

At Four Seasons of Early Learning we strive to provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment that is developmentally appropriate and fosters respect for individual needs. We view education as a partnership between parents and teachers and work tirelessly to develop a good rapport with each child and their family based on open communication and mutual respect.

We provide children with boundless opportunities to explore the natural world around them where they are challenged by teachers to question, to think, to collaborate and to act with integrity. By working closely with families, children learn personal and social responsibility that creates acceptance and honors diversity.

By offering an emerging curriculum it is our aspiration that each child will develop a positive outlook toward school, a better appreciation for the world around them and acquire a lifelong love for learning that will serve them here and their time beyond.

Our Philosophy is based on the following:

  • All children have the right to be accepted, respected, and embraced as competent (Edwards, Gandini, & Forman, 1998).
  • Play is essential in developing the cognitive skills of children
    (Smilansky, 1990)
  • Children are continuous learners and learn best within the context of family, culture, and community (Bredekamp & Copple, 1997).
  • Children construct knowledge by active participation with real materials and the environment (DeVries,1994).
  • Development of the “whole child” with a focus on promoting social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development (Hendrick, 2001).
  • Collaboration between families and teachers supports the development of the child and home-school relationships (Bredekamp & Copple, 1997).
  • Continuous professional development of teaching staff promotes program quality (High Scope,1998).
